WordPress Readings is divided into 2 separate sections/checks, the Search Engine Visibility section and the Check Robots.txt check. This section is used to check and toggle how search engines interact with your website. Both can be checked under the WP Reading subsection.
- What do I do if my website is not showing up on Google/ other search engines?
If you are experiencing issues with search engine visibility, there could be an issue with the level of permission search engines have while indexing the website, or even the lack of some files that provide that permission, to check which issue it might be do the following. - First navigate to the WP Site Checker plugin from the admin console on the left side of your interface.
- Then navigate to the WP Related Checks Tab.
- Navigate to the WP Reading section from there.
- Here you will find two sections detailing different information.
- Search Engine Visibility
Under this section you will find a report telling you whether or not the site discourages search engines from indexing the site.
- If this is switched to Yes, then search engines will either not have information about the website, or it will be outdated information.
- When switched to No, it allows Search Engines to freely index new information from within the site and consequently update it’s profile on the Engine.
- If this is switched to Yes, then search engines will either not have information about the website, or it will be outdated information.
- Check Robots.txt
Robots.txt is a file that is required to allow Search Engine bots to index your website.
- If it provides the message, Successfully retrieved robots.txt content, then the file is present and functioning.
- If it provides any other message in response to this check, robots.txt may be missing or broken in some way, and you may need to reinstall the file to fix this.
- If it provides the message, Successfully retrieved robots.txt content, then the file is present and functioning.
